Scam Watch

Real help is free. If you're looking for work or help in Reno, you've probably been flooded with fake "help" emails. We reported them to the FTC. Here's what to watch for.

⚠

Fake government notices

"New SNAP Payment Levels Released," "SSDI Payment Review Info," "Section 8 Pre-Application Not Complete." Real agencies don't email you like this. The IRS doesn't email you at all.

$

Fake money alerts

"CashApp Account Instructions," "Transaction #...," "We found your money," "Resubmit your Mastercard application" when you never applied. It's bait to get your info.

💼

Fake urgent jobs

"MUST HIRE ASAP," "start work NOW." They copy real employers' names to collect your info. Apply on the employer's own website instead.
